what can you do with $30K?

The latest Madonna adoption snafu that's in the news has my panties in a wad. Celebrities like Madonna and Angelina Jolie, in my opinion, are missing the bigger picture. According to Adoptive Families magazine, the estimated cost to adopt a child in China is $20-25,000. A Guatemalan adoption is $25-30,000. Russia is estimated at $30-40,000. [source: www.foxnews.com] So, you fork out $30,000, basically pocket change, and you've made life better for one child...but what about the rest? For $300 a year, organizations like Asia's Hope, can provide shelter, food, medical/dental and an education for 1 orphan'd child in Cambodia or Thailand. Let's see, if you do the math that would be 100 children who are getting a decent shot at changing their lives. Which makes me wonder then, what is the impact on a culture if more than one child receives food, medicine, education and remains in that country to make it a better place? How many woman in third world countries would be saved from prostitution and AIDS if they had a chance to break the cycle of poverty?

Think people think! These are human lives...not some bauble to add to your philanthropy shelf.

Miffffffffffed, Miss B.
