the good the bad and the ugly

I'd be interested in knowing what all of you thought about the fashion on the red carpet at last night's Academy Awards. My overall reaction was "meh"...especially in the 'best actress' category. Not unlike my feelings regarding movies in general over this past year. Somewhat appropriate that the ho-hum fashion is reflective of that. So let's start with the good...

This is pretty typical of a JLo look, but honey...if it ain't broken...know what I mean? I thought she was stunning. She doesn't have the most perfect body, but man does she know how to camo the flaws.
I never think it's a good idea to wear 'red' on the red carpet...and the look over all is a little too matchy-matchy for me. BUT, can I see a raise of hands of how many people would like to look this good when they're 61 years old? A gigundo 'attagirl' coming your way Dr. Quinn!
I don't know who is styling her, but yowza...job well done...again, Octavia Spencer!!!

And now...the bad...
So what was the stylist's goal for this look? Let's see...
1)orange hair: check
2)smashed boobs...again: check
3)front hole patch: check
This is what is called a 'Fashion Whiteout'. Click here for the definition.
Thank goodness they added the bow at the waist...whew! The dress would have been a total disaster without it (she said sarcastically).
I'm thinking that Zac Posen is watching his 18-24 demographic bail like bugs in a roach bomb.
Been there. Seen it. Don't want to see it again.

And finally...the ugly.
I love Sandra Bullock, but this is a total miss in my opinion. Sorry to say.
Here's a fashion tip for you. If you can't wear the type of foundational support you need under a dress without said support garment showing, then pick a different dress. A square of tulle across a gaping bodice ain't doin' it sister.
How do I hate this dress, let me count the ways. The color is awful. The sleeves look like they were a last minute add on and just add visual weight. And the fabric is puckered and pulling in all the wrong places. I know it's difficult for larger size gals to find decent evening wear, but that being said...find a designer that understands plus size figures rather than going with a designer that just makes one of their size 4 dresses, larger.

I don't like to criticize without providing a solution...so here are a few dresses that I think would have looked so much better on both Sherri Shepherd and Melissa McCarthy.

I found this designer plus size website...I can't vouch for it since I've never actually seen any of the clothes, but I was pretty impressed with the fashionable styles. The clothes actually look like clothes and not wearable pup tents.

Until next time my lovelies...Miss Bea
