double dog dare

A friend of mine was reading my blog and double dog dared me to create a 'sensible' pair of shoes modeled and/or inspired by Louis Vuitton's 'Spicy' sandal...of which I dished on a couple days earlier in my series "Weapons of Mass Destruction". So here is the final product. I dug out an old pair of Impo mules that were already in the Goodwill donation box that I have out in my garage. Picked up a few things at JoAnn's and rumaged around in my craft room for other tschotkes that I didn't mind parting with. The result was 2 days of my kitchen counters being covered with mod podge, feathers, vintage buttons, pipe cleaners and Cheerios. (I couldn't find any big wooden beads, so I had to improvise with Cheerios. Important note. If you make something out of Cheerios, don't accidentally step on it. It's not pretty.) Here is the LV inspirational shoe, in the event that you've forgotten what they looked like.

***And here are mine, of which I've named 'Double Dog Dare'.***

Just so this little crazy exercise would not be in vain, I have listed these shoes for sale on eBay. You can view the listing here. All proceeds, (I'm giggling even as I write this...like there will be any proceeds), anyway...all proceeds will be donated to Asia's Hope. www.asiashope.org

weapons of mass destruction

Today begins a 3-part series on an alarming shoe trend which I have titled, "Weapons of Mass Destruction".  Recently I've stumbled across various fashion websites with colorful descriptions such as "Architectural Shoes" and "Aggressive Accessories". To which, I scratched my Aqua Net lacquered head and said, "Huh?" Upon further investigation, I've come to find that women's shoes have somehow morphed into something barely resembling a shoe...more like a heinous torture system that women gladly fund and participate in. I guess it's always been this way, as can be noted by the Chinese custom of foot binding during the Ming Dynasty. Don't get me wrong, I L-O-V-E shoes. But the older I get, the more I find myself gravitating to 'feel good' rather than 'look good' footwear. Egads...I am becoming my mother.

So, today's example comes to us from Louis Vuitton. A sassy little shoe called "Spicy" and retailing for a mere $2200. Tuh-wuhntee-two-Thuh-oww-sen-duh-ah-luh-hers! I don't know whether to be impressed or throw up. Katie Grand, stylist for Louis Vuitton said, "I think it's popular because it's such a great shoe--it's really fun and jolly and is a proper work of art." Katie must have been wearing a pair of the 4.5" high heels when she made that statement...a little light-headed from the lack of air at that altitude. She went on to say that there is already a waiting list. Good grief people, a waiting list?!! It's a shoe for heavens sake, not a kidney! Who in their right minds would wear...oh wait...

Nevermind, Miss B.
